Verna M. Hall, out of concern for her beloved country, America, began her research into the foundations of American Christian history in the 1930's. She sought to understand why we continue to slip down the path of socialism. Her answer came when she began to study the original founding documents and papers of the colonial and constitutional periods—the sermons of our founding clergy; the correspondence and public writings of our patriots, and the founding documents of our statesmen. Verna Hall discovered the Providence of God in history and learned that America was the fruit of westward course of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, establishing on the North American continent a Biblical form of civil government, so that the life, liberty, and the talents of the individual might be free to glorify the Lord.

In the 1960's, Christian educator Rosalie J. Slater joined Miss Hall in the effort to discover why Christian educators no longer included the study of America’s Christian history and government in their curriculum. This research birthed the Foundation for American Christian Education. Miss Hall and Miss Slater soon learned that the Biblical and historical documentation of America’s Christian history had been removed from American textbooks, and, to their dismay, that America’s historic methods of Biblical reasoning and writing had be replace by workbooks and collective programs of study; such as language arts and social studies. Miss Slater restored to the curriculum the integrity of classic literature, composition, English grammar, history, government, and geography as individual subjects. Through her courses of study and syllabi, which introduced to teachers and students key individuals whom God had used throughout history in all fields of learning, Miss Slater restored to American Christian education a Principle Approach® to teaching and learning which had characterized America’s education during its founding years.

An American Christian curriculum established upon the understanding of America’s Christian history begins with Teaching and Learning America’s Christian History: The Principle Approach®. This volume was written as a companion and guide to Miss Hall’s book, The Christian History of the Constitutions of the United States of America, Vol. I: Christian Self-Government. The Principle Approach® restores the application of America’s Biblical and governmental principles of Christian character and self-government—first, to the individual American citizen, and secondly, to individual subjects. Only as American Christians accept the responsibility for stewardship of our nation’s Christian history can we continue to be a testimony of the Hand of God and a light to all nations.

At her first awareness of America’s decline and degeneracy, Verna M. Hall began research that led her to know the cause was not economic or political, social or even moral—but spiritual. Willing to lay down her life and focus entirely on God’s call, she compiled and published and taught everyone who would listen. This resulted in a still growing mountain of testimonies of changed lives and ministries spawned to restore Christian character to our nation. When the Lord took her home, she was compiling a series on The Biblical Foundations of the Constitution, to include the “root,” the “fruit,” and the “restoration” of America to its providential purpose in God’s plan. She was a master builder, hearing from the great Architect, and faithfully laying to the plumb and the foundation stones for America’s next generation of statesmen. The Foundation for American Christian Education is dedicated to continuing to build true to the design God imparted on Verna Hall.

From the moment she first glimpsed Verna’s “big red book,” God called Rosalie Slater out of a secular doctoral program in education to partner with Verna Hall and to teach the “answer program” for the restoration of America. She gleaned in Miss Hall’s rich complications of early American history the historic method of Biblical education that produced Gospel liberty and Christian civil government. She restored that method which she named “The Principle Approach®” to American Christian education. Together they established the Foundation for American Christian Education, which produced endless testimonies glorifying God, now reaching to a third generation of families in America and other nations. Her vision is to see the Bible as central to all areas of learning and free Americans to be once again self-governed under God. She continues to preside over the Foundation and to write, develop curriculum, and mentor master teachers and parents.
