Ear Training 0.1

A. Practice hearing and identifying the following musical elements (it is recommended that you practice with a partner or use an ear training program such as musictheory.net Links to an external site.):
  • Pieces of music in different meters (simple duple, compound triple, etc.)
  • Major and minor thirds (harmonic and melodic - both ascending and descending)

B. Dictate the following melody. Use these parameters to prepare your staff:

  • Treble clef
  • 4/4 time
  • Key signature: 0 sharps or flats
  • Starting pitch: Quarter note on C4
  • Four measures

You may listen to the example four times, pausing for about 30 seconds between each playing (this is similar to the format of the dictation section on the AP Music Theory exam). When you are finished, check your work by opening the attached PDF document.
